FAQs

When does registration open?

Typically registration opens in June each year - keep checking the “registration” page for updates.

How many times can I participate in NZIBO?

You may sit the entrance exam and participate in the tutorial programme as many times as you like while you are enrolled in a NZ secondary school. You may only attend the NZIBO practical training camp twice.

Are there past papers to help me prepare?

There are some past papers and tips for exam preparation under “Preparing for Exams”. All other past papers are embargoed.

I participated in the tutorial programme previously; Do I need to register?

Yes! You still need to register by the deadline if you wish to do NZIBO again. Anyone who has participated in the tutorial programme previously does not have to sit the National Entrance Exam and will receive direct entry to the tutorial programme once they have registered.

How do I know if my school has participated before?

See the “participating schools list” or dropdown menu in the registration form.

Can I participate if my school doesn’t have a teacher in charge of NZIBO?

You will need a teacher to supervise the National entrance exam and camp selection exam. Try asking your biology teacher or teacher in charge of biology/science and reach out to [email protected] if this is an issue.

I don’t know if I will be to afford to participate in NZIBO; Is there financial support available?

Yes - there are subsidies or scholarships available at all stages of the programme. Please reach out to [email protected]. We do not want any student to miss out on the opportunity to participate in NZIBO due to financial constraints!

The tutorial program sounds like a lot of work?

If selected for the tutorial program you have the power to guide your own learning. You are able to pick and choose the modules you find interesting and helpful, and work at your own pace. The tutorial programme is valuable beyond training for the camp selection exam and IBO - it will help you with school exams and provide a head start for university. It is a substantial commitment to complete fully before the camp selection exam - 5-8 hours of study per week if this is your goal.

I am in the tutorial program and need help!

Please get in touch with [email protected] and one of our tutor team will be able to answer you questions.
