Wonderful news from Sophia Bebelman, one of our treasured alumni. Sophia represented New Zealand at the IBO in Hungary in 2019 and won a Bronze medal.
Sophia has been awarded the Woolf Fisher Scholarship to undertake a PhD at Cambridge University, starting in October 2025. She plans to investigate the role of the immune system in cancer, specifically exploring how aspirin alters the immune response to reduce rates of cancer metastasis. This work will hopefully contribute to more effective and accessible treatments to prevent cancers from metastasising.
The scholarship covers flights, international fees, and a stipend. Four Woolf Fisher Scholarships were awarded this year. More information can be found on their website: https://www.woolffishertrust.co.nz/scholarships/
Please join us in congratulating Sophia – an amazing young biologist!
